Police said the speeding vehicle struck a curb and went out of control, slamming into a tree.
DALLAS — Police said six people were killed Sunday night in a crash in South Dallas.
The accident occurred at about 9:10 p.m. Sunday as a 20-year-old male drove southbound in the 5600 block of Bonnie View Road, according to a statement from Monica Cordova, a spokeswoman for Dallas police.
The 2004 Chevrolet Impala was carrying five passengers, including a 15-year-old male, 16-year-old male, 21-year-old female and 23-year-old female. Police said they're working to identify the other male passenger.
Police said the vehicle was speeding when it struck a curb and went out of control. The Impala slammed passenger-side into a tree. Rescue crews had to cut into the wreckage to extract the victims.
In a tweet, Dallas Police Maj. Max Geron said four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene and two others were pronounced dead at Baylor Hospital.
The names of the victims haven't been released.
The Dallas Independent School District released a statement upon learning that three of the victims were students at Justin F. Kimball High School:
"Dallas ISD is deeply saddened to learn that three students at Justin F. Kimball High School have died as the result of a traffic accident on Aug. 30 in Oak Cliff. Grief counselors will be at Kimball and both T.W. Browne Middle School and Daniel Webster Elementary School, where siblings of the victims are enrolled, to help those school communities address this loss."
